Day I - You Have to Start Somewhere

This is the first entry in my "Weezers and Geezers Part 1 Blog." I know, weezer should be spelled "wheezer" but it's kind of like the "Beatles vs. Beetles." Now I am just starting out and learning my way.  I intend for this to be an honest historical record of what I am planning on going through the next two years.  There's a large subplot in all of this but there will be plenty more time for that later.  In the meantime here's what you need to know.  I'm 65 with the attitude of a 21 year-old.  The Boss, a.k.a. the woman I'm related to by marriage, thinks that I am still operating at a 13 year-old maturity level. She may be right.  She generally is for that matter about most things. I have sleep apnea and I weigh 235 pounds. I'm just a tad under 6 feet.  I don't smoke or drink.  I have a heart murmur and I had a small stroke May 5, 2014.  This past year I had to be checked for possibly having ALS and was relieved to find that I do not have it.  I love my family and my friends and I believe there are no such thing as strangers.  I believe in the old saying, "Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet." I fully intend to make a lot of clerical mistakes and probably already have and I just got started.  None of that matters.  It's all noise to me and I am blocking it all out.  I am a man on a mission to feed truly hungry people.  Real hunger as in folks who have little or no food.  Simultaneously, I am on a journey to be what Dr. George Sheehan used to call, "Being a fit animal."  I will be sharing things with you about myself that are true and probably more than you need to know.
"Weezers and Geezers Part 1" is all about getting ready for the Columbus Marathon in 16 weeks.  I am following the outline of the Hal Higdon Intermediate 2 Marathon training program and I am now into my third week. I have completed two months of running over 100 miles in a month.  The journey has begun and I am on a path that will either lead to personal fulfillment or as my football coach in high school once said after a large numerical loss, "Boys you just plain sucked today."  I am comforted by the words of my beloved Dr. Sheehan when he said that the great and sad thing about America is that it was possible to go through life and never know if you are a coward or not.  With what I have planned, I'm going to find out.  This blog is a commitment to a dream and a way to hold myself accountable for a wild dream that I have.  So let the boy become a man and begin the journey and you with me if you are so inclined.  My guarantee to you is that I won't embellish, lie, or paint myself to be more than what I am. Excuse me just a second and let me check with my friend Brian Williams.......
Well for now that will have to do.  I hope you follow along or that somebody notice's this at some point and that I provide entertainment, inspiration, and hopefully lots of laughs.  The stroke last year taught me that there is Hope, Humor, and Opportunity in every negative situation and throughout life in general. If I'm lucky, this journey will include all three.  If this was a movie, Steppenwolf would be playing in the background and we would all be singing, "Get your motor running. Get out on the highway...." So let's go!
